MONTHLY MINUTES

Tournament report (Tim) Dates confirmed
July 1 Open Tournament, Sturgeon
July 23 CSFL Twilight, Tri-lakes
Aug 4, Picnic, Larry's place (individual)
Aug 6, CSFL Twilight, Rice Lake
Sept 1, Pigeon
Sept 20, Rice (with Port Perry CLub)
Oct 11, Sandy Lake

Looking at a Pike tournament in June, will confirm date and location at next meeting.
All tournaments, with the exception of Aug 4 will be team events, 4 fish limit.
As to the event with Port Perry Brian Gorrill suggested that BASS rules apply to simplify and eliminate any confusion. This will be revisited prior to event.
There was an open discussion as to non-boater portion of expenses as operating expenses, gas in particular have increased. It was left that this would be discussed prior to the event by boater & non-boater, as $20.00 is in most cases low when you consider boat and truck.

Simcoe Qualifier: Bob mentioned that currently had 6 entries, 4 boater and 2 non boater. In order to qualify for the early bird draw they need to be sent in by this Friday, problem is that non & boater must be equal. To see who would have to change was determined by position from last years tournaments, as George Craig & Gary finished with more points than Arlington he was switched to non-boater. It was also agreed that if we can balance the remainder of entries Arlington would be first to be changed back to boater.

There was also some interest from new members, as well as existing members for new tournament shirts. Brian Gorrill agreed to look into and get some prices, looking at probably 12 to 15 shirts.

Reminder that Bass Magnet will be at next meeting.

January Meeting - January 02 2008

New Business:

IN-Water Weigh-in:
Jason not present; however, is to report back @ arrangements, costs etc re: new scale/ bins equipment. Pete Garnier will send a "gentle" reminder to Jason. Club voted in December and the motion was carried to purchase the necessary equipment for in-water weigh-ins for this year's tournaments.

Tournament Plaques:
Great debate re: tournament plaques. Craig, Larry & Bob to bring samples to February Meeting in attempt to "standardize" Lindsay club plaques. Club expressed importance of 1st 2nd and 3rd place plaques to be at every event. Members encouraged to bring any design ideas and finalize/vote on what info should be included on the plaques' ingraved plate at February meeting. Sample below:

Larry spurred a rather "Heated" debate( see side-note above) re; Tournament pre-registration expressing his discontent with anglers waiting 'till the last minute to enter a given event. Larry suggested a "late fee" might encourage competitors to anti-up well in advance of an event. There was lots of comments and concerns. Ernie suggested its not possible for him to know whether he's fishing or not until often the night before. PeteG stated that his only concern is getting as many boats/Competitors into an event as possible. Randy Hillberg suggested that until we have full fields and waiting lists - early entries does little more than get you a better starting number (Ernie reminded us that early entry doesn't necessarily equal better starting number all the time - politics etc). good debate - guys get your entries in as soon as possible - its better for the sport.

Members in Attendance: 16
Call to order: 7:45pm

Had to dispense of the reading of minutes and agenda due to neither being available with the absence of the secretary. Displeasure shown by president.

President Report: Reminded members elections of officers next meeting.
Attended the steering committee meeting on October20th. On the agenda of the meeting was the site for the 2008 Qualifier and 2009 Eastern Divisional. At meeting time Georgian Bay and Quinte Bassmasters have withdrawn their proposals. That left only the proposal of Mississauga, Barrie, Aurora and York Bassmasters. Their bid is for the City of Orillia hosting the event, with the waters of Simcoe and Couchiching as the fishing waters. The vote to take place at the General meeting November 24, 2007. The proposal handout was passed around the room.
Bob asked if there were any members willing to go to the meeting to represent Lindsay at the Annual General Meeting. The Meeting is at Iroquois Park Arena in Whitby on November 24th.
Amendments to the bylaws of the OBF are also being voted on at the general meeting.
Bob brought up the change in format of the 6 man team event. BASS is sticking with the event making it a true team event. Teams are members of same club, no drawing of non-boaters from other clubs to form pairings. This means no sharing of spots or ½ day in other partner's water.
The OBF had a one time offer for the sale of a loaded Triton boat valued at $58000. It was decided to auction off the boat. OBF price $30000 for boat. Sold for $36000.
Bob discussed club business. As a club we were too late to put Randy Barrett's name into OBF Member of the Year Nominations. We will submit his name for the 2008 Annual General Meeting.
The OBF Angler of the Year award is based on 5 pre selected tournaments. Lindsay is not eligible this year due to an oversight by the President. Thought he sent in the list at the same time as the insurance coverage events.
Congrats to Jason with the birth of a future bass angler.
Congrats to Fabian for presenting copies of photos taken at the Sandy Lake Tournament.
Bob brought up the purchasing of new weigh scales for club tournaments. A discussion followed. The club is in favour of getting new scales. Some members have concerns about in-water weigh in system of where it can take place in on some tournament waters. Other concerns of who will look after equipment at tournament site and storage. It was decided that a committee will be set up. This will committee with be chaired by Jason, based on his experience in setting up the KW Club system.
Congrats to Pete Garnier on winning are Angler of the Year and also the Lunker of the Year Trophies.

Motion to accept minutes of Feb. 01, 2006: Pete Garnier Seconded: Kim Lennox

Presidents Report - Bob reported that the steering committee meeting is on March 25th. He also announced that Ontario could be the first host of the 6 man Team Great Lakes Region event in July 2007. Bob went on to advise a qualifier event would held in September possibly on Rice Lake and that Lindsay could field a team for every 12 members on our roster. Speculation was we would have 3 boaters and 3 nonboaters on each team and each would be paired with an opposite from some of the other chapter teams. You would compete against your boat partner weighing your own limit. The 6 team members weights would be combined and tallied against the other teams. It looks like a fun event and we will move our club tournament to accommodate it if necessary.
Also the Qualifier on the Ottawa River, Pettawawa is scheduled for August 26 & 27. Bob Peters is attempting to charge the Federation for trailer storage to the tune of $4,000. causing problems.
Bass Magnet Lures are coming to our June meeting.

Casting Kids- Randy Hilberg announced the Big Brothers event at Chemong is scheduled for June 11th. The plan is the children will fish the morning than come back for lunch followed by the Casting Kids event. It will be open to walk-ins. Bob will provide Chris with a press release and or a flyer to advertise the event locally, they should be available at April's meeting.

Conservation - Brian Gorrill distributed a hand out from Heather Surrette along with a volunteer sign up sheet. Lindsay members are asked to do a spawning survey in the Nonquon as soon as the ice goes out. It will be carried out in the dark with bright lights. Please contact Brian to volunteer with possibly your boat or light. It will take place in late March and early April.
Remember the Fisheries Seminar on April 1st if you plan to attend send your money pronto to reserve your spot.

Tournaments-We have received 4 Open entries. Larry suggested using the Picnic for our 1 man per boat tournament because it would be safer for competitors to stay in Emily Creek.

Heather requested volunteers that are 18 years or older by attending a 2 hour training workshop can contribute through sampling and collecting research data in the field. Also financial contributions are welcomed, or volunteering for the Great Canadian shore line clean up usually held in September.
Heather Surette is heading an early season spawning study on the Nonquon River that will take place right after the ice goes out that she is looking for help with especially volunteers with Bass boats for easy access. Heather followed up by answering the members questions. The presentation was well received and very informative. It left us with numerous options to volunteer our time and resources for those that feel a need to give back to the sport and fishery that we enjoy.
Members were asked to fill out questionnaires concerning the Nonquon River

Presidents Report - Bob reported on the FLW versus BASS controversy. Both Lindsay and the Ontario Federation has voted to remain with BASS and it appears to be a good decision. The FLW offer is very generous and while very good it appears to favour the TBF management while the new BASS Nation deal benefits the individual with more oppourtunities. BASS have backed down from their original position by offering to reinstate the TBF directors memberships as of March 01, 2006 and to reinstate the Divisional tournaments. New in 2007 will be a 6 man Chapter team competition. A Federation financial review at the Steering Comm. Meeting showed the Federation's financial position is vastly improved from last years. The Conservation Seminar that is being organized by Wil Wegman and Jason Barnucz for early April will be open to any members who wish to attend. Guest speakers include Gord Pyzer and Dr. Mark Ridgway considered a leading Smallmouth expert. There will be oppourtunities to gain some insight into fish habits.

Members: 14 plus 1 guest

Motion to accept agenda: Giles Westerhout seconded: Glen Maidens

Motion to accept minutes: Scott Holmes seconded: Giles Westerhout

President Report: There was no new development at the OBF to report. Bob then moved to discuss the OBF Qualifier.
He discussed the correspondence with Bruce Farrell and George Saliba. There was a rumour going that late Qualifier Entries were not balanced boaters would become non-boaters. Bruce said that this was untrue. Bruce also said that they would ask boaters with small horsepower motors to become non-boaters.
Bob told the club the members that participated in the Qualifier. Bruno Luzak, George Saliba, Brian Gorrill and Bob Thornington. He congratulated all participants and told everyone that he finished second in the tournament and will be on Team Ontario. Team Ontario will be fishing on Lake Champlain in 2006.
Bob discussed briefly on how he fished to make the team.

Treasurer Report: Bob said George will not present due to a pre-fishing commitment on Oneida Lake New York. Members wished him luck.
George had left the balance statement on the agenda. The balance will be higher than stated due to shirt monies received are not included. Glen Maidens and Giles Westerhout paid for their shirts. Tony Lauzon return the OBF Raffle tickets and money. Pete Garnier (pre-fishing CFT Classic) and Arlington Woodford raffle tickets still outstanding.
Larry Jones brought up a point that we have not made any money on our Open Tournament. He feels that it is a lot of work with no return on our work. He feels that we should make money to be put to club use such as club prizes, OBF Qualifier entries.
Motion by Bob Thornington: That the club reimburse the members who fished the OBF Qualifier, fifty percent (50%) of the entry fee paid which was $200. This will make the repayment $100 per member.
Motion was unanimous. Motion Carried

Tournament Report: Randy Robinson was not present. Bob presented the trophies for our last tournament held on Lower Buckhorn. 1st place Kim Lennox & Giles Westerhout, 2nd place George Saliba & Fabian Lynch, 3rd place Pete Garnier & Bob Thornington. Larry Jones said the owners of the resort where we launched were impressed with conduct and quietness in the morning. We are more than welcomed back here for future tournaments. Larry liked the lake and should be consider for future tournaments.
The membership showed concern on having a tournament on Simcoe in October. It was decided to move the event to another lake. Lower Pigeon, Balsam Lake, Cameron Lake and Lower Chemong were discussed. Lower Chemong was chosen on Saturday October 15th. The water south of the causeway is open. Entries and parings will take place next meeting.

Other Business: The club decided that we will have a brown bag auction at the December meeting.
Chris Cappuccitti would like to have all results for our tournaments so he can put them on the web site.
Larry Jones suggested that we get back to our membership fishing discussions. Also try to get some guest speakers.

Motion to adjourn: Brian Gorrill seconded: Kim Lennox

Bob Thornington call meeting to order 7:50pm

Members in attendance: 16 & John& Tyler Armstrong

Motion to accept minutes: Fabian Lynch seconded: Kim Lennox

Presidents Report: Bob reported that Kevin Van Dam won the Bassmaster Classic with a record low weight. Also mentioned that Ken Hamilton was there and we may see some more incentives from BASS.
The web page was brought up. Chris Cappuccitti said he was aware of the OBF position on advertising on web pages and would like to see OBF Sponsors on Chapters Web Page.
Chris explained what is involved and he can up grade the site to carry OBF sponsors and save the side bar for club and member sponsors.
Bob brought up our club tournament and barbeque at Larry Jones home. Bob thought the tournament went well and every one caught fish. Bob did say that he was disappointed that boater did not show up. We were fortunate that George could take the other non-boater. Also we were lucky that there were only small fish caught and there was room in the livewells.
(Note: At this time Arlington Woodford took the floor and apologized to the club for missing the date. Arlington then stated that he would go as a non-boater for the rest of the 2005 tournaments. The club accepted his apology. )
Treasurer Report: Not available due to George Saliba is away at Lake Champlain. ( Club Members will interested in the results of this tournament.)
Tournament Report: Randy Robinson reported the results of the club tournament on Sturgeon Lake. 1st Pete Garnier 17lb, 2nd Larry Jones 14.5lb,3rd Giles Westerhout 13.5lb.
Randy was disappointed with the turnout but was understanding that we had several members fishing another tournament. Randy took this time again to thank Larry Jones for the use of his property for the tournament and barbeque.
Then Randy did the presentation of the trophies. Also sent around tournament sign up sheet. We will meet at the Tim Horton's in Bobcaygeon at 5:30am on September 5th.
New Business: Pete Garnier brought the new shirts to the meeting. Members pick their shirts. Pete kept track of shirts and figured out the price. The price of the shirt will be $35. Motion by Randy Robinson: That the new shirts cost will be paid each member for every shirt ordered and the club will pick up the cost of the Lindsay Bassmaster Logo. Motion was voted on and passed unanimously.
Discussion ensued and it was decided that logo will appear on the right breast.
Paul Jones brought up our tournaments and the limit of 4 fish per angler. He felt that this was too large for the livewells and causing undue stress to the fish. He suggested that if we our continuing our present formula of boater-non-boater that we should reduce the limit to 3 fish each. Fabian Lynch added that this change was done because of the Angler of the Year and a person could win and not catch a fish. A discussion ensued ending in a motion.
Motion by Pete Garnier: That all tournaments starting at our next one go back to the team format and remain that way until a change is needed.
Motion was voted on and carried unanimously.
As for Fabian's comment, we the club will have to decide how we will award the Trophy at a future meeting.
Larry Jones suggested a individual tournament, one angler one boat. Tournament would have to take place on small water such as Cameron or Canal Lake as a member in only a 12 footer & 9hp could easily fish and be competitive.

Motion to adjourn: Fabian Lynch Seconded : Kim Lennox

Adjourned: 8:50pm
